Bridge decks for heavy loads

Fiberline’s programme of structural profiles for bridge decks consists of the following three components: FBD600 ASSET, FBD450 CLAP and FBD300.

All three profiles are well suited both for construction of new bridges and for renovation of life-expired decks on existing concrete or steel bridges.

The profiles cover all bridge deck requirements, ranging from light to heavy vehicle loads.

Advantages for all three profiles:

  • Long life with minimal maintenance.
  • Short construction time and fast installation at site.
  • Low weight means reduced handling costs (eg. transport and assembly).
  • Economies and less traffic disruption – both during the building phase and the life of the bridge.

Adjustment and assembly without special equipment
During assembly, the support can be either load-carrying beams of GRP composite, steel or concrete. The profiles are bonded together to form an integrated deck which is bolted or glued to the load-carrying beams. The Fiberline profiles can be machined and adjusted using ordinary tools, and their low weight means that handling can be performed without use of heavy lifting gear.

The deck can be assembled on site, for example in a tent close to the point of installation, and craned into place. Alternatively the profiles can be mounted directly onto the load-carrying substructure. Assembly can take place "top-down" without use of scaffoldings.

We can also provide a complete solution with profiles for side cladding and construction of the load-carrying beam layer.

FBD600 Asset:

FBD600 ASSET is ideal for busy road and rail bridges where construction and maintenance can cause serious traffic disruption.

The ASSET profile is typically used for bridges subjected to heavy loads.

ASSET conforms to Eurocode 1, EN 1991-2-1 and can be used in accordance with the standard’s load classes.

FBD450 Clap:

CLAP is the profile of choice for bridges subjected to lighter vehicle loads. High-speed assembly/disassembly makes this profile well suited for eg. lightweight military bridges.

CLAP is also well suited for car parks and access ramps exposed to heavy vehicles.

Among other things, FBD450 CLAP is dimensioned to STANAG wheel load category MLC 40.

 FBD300:

FBD300 is designed for small bridges carrying light traffic and for pedestrian footbridges.

With a height of just 80 mm, this deck is particularly well suited for direct mounting on existing beam substructures as replacement for decks of life-expired timber and other materials.

Among other things, FBD 300 conforms to load class 300 of Dutch standard NEN 6788: 1995. This corresponds to a max. wheel load of 100 kN and a total vehicle weight of 300 kN.
