How our products are recycled

From composite profile to cement
The recycling of composite profiles for cement manufacture takes place in a closed loop in which 30% of the composite is used as an energy source and 70% as a raw material. When used in cement manufacture, granulated composite is a replacement for fossil fuels and a substitute for new raw materials.

In 2010 Fiberline became the first Danish enterprise to join forces with the German company Zajons, which has established a plant in north Germany to preprocess composite for recycling. At the plant a large grinding mill reduces the composite to granulate, after which the calorific value of the granulate is adjusted by mixing with other recycled materials in a patented process. The finished product is used as a substitute fuel and raw material at the Holcim cement plant.

Closed loop

Several recycling projects, including one by Arbeitsgemeinschaft Verstärkte Kunststoffe (AVK) in Germany, have shown that it is technically feasible by means of pyrolysis to break down the chains of molecules in hardened polyester for conversion into new raw polyester. The leftover glass fibres can be recycled in the production of insulating mats or fibre-reinforced concrete. This process has not yet been established on a commercial basis.
