Der Gedanke, Brücken aus Kunststoff zu fertigen, mag zunächst außergewöhnlich erscheinen. Bedenkt man jedoch, dass die mechanische festigkeit von faserverstärkten Kunststoffen im Bereich von konventionelle Baustoffen liegt, muss man sich schon fragen, warum es nicht schon lange Brückenbauwerke aus Kunststoffen gibt. Zumal diese viel beständiger gegen Korrosion sind und somit deutlich geringere Instandhaltungskosten erfordern als Stahl- oder Stahlbetonbrücken.

Constructing bridges of plastics may at first seem an unusual idea. Considering, however, that the mechanical stability of fibre reinforced plastics is comparable to conventional building materials, the question is, rather, why such bridges have not been built much sooner. These are much more resistant to corrosion, with cleary lower maintenance costs than for steel or reinforced concrete bridges.
