Gerold Mann, Mayor of Klipphausen near Dresden, is faced with the problem of rotting, rusting and badly damaged bridges caused by frequent local flooding.
Now, rather than rebuild the bridges using steel and timber, the Klipphausen authorities have opted to install five bridges made of GRP composite.
“We have had to renovate bridges that were only 10 to 15 years old due to the effects of water and corrosion. By contrast, GRP bridges have long life, don’t corrode and require only minimal maintenance. These are advantages we intend to exploit,” says Gerold Mann.
